Outside of music, his distant ancestors include notable historical figures like His Serene Highness Prince Potemkin, several colonels and generals from 1812, the Decembrists, founders of private railways known as the "railway kings," patrons, and philanthropists, including confidants of members of the imperial Romanov family.
Following the communist revolution, many of his ancestors faced significant hardships, including executions, imprisonment, and exile. During the Soviet Union, mentioning some of his noble ancestors—who were considered enemies of the Soviet people—was forbidden.
